Ever wonder what it takes to get a book published from writing to publishing to publicity? Come along for my ride. And think about it this way: if I end up writing a best seller, you can say, "I knew her when she was just writing a kooky blog."
Getting published appears to require one part alchemy, two parts trust, one part sheer, blind luck. Oh, and you have to write for months on end without a clue as to whether anyone will ever want to read your work. Along the way you'll get rejection, odd suggestions and collection notices (or, worse, a real job which will mean you'll write only when nocturnal animals are hunting).
I will document my journey in writing my memoir Illegal: Growing Up Unwanted in America. See below for what's happened so far. Not bad, but not yet Barnes and Noble. Take heart. We are all in this together.
My story so far.
Bloggers Blog About It
I am in this for the long haul. Whether it's New York Times bestseller or self published and selling out of my trunk, this book is getting out there. Come along for the ride.
Balm for your smarting soul: famous writers get rejected too. Got a story to share? Post it.

See me here talking about the story in my book - crossing the Mexican border illegally at the age of eight.

Consider publishing both in print format (through Amazon's Createspace) and Kindle Ebook format (since a lot of people are enjoying downloading books in Ebook format these days.) If your book picks up momentum and sales, Amazon might even choose your work for their new Encore program and your book will even get into bookstores.
In the meantime, you can make money right away from your work instead of a minimum 18 month wait (that's AFTER an editor at a traditional publishing house agrees to publish your book.)

It does seem as though people who have brushes with death change their behavior in significant ways. Really truth.

It's a very good quote (and sometimes difficult to follow...). I like the picture a lot.
